I, Clay Kennemuth of Mayport announce my candidacy for the republican primary of the 63rd district of the Pennsylvania General Assembly. As a paramedic, nurse, and firefighter, I get a firsthand look in to peoples lives. I have dedicated my life to public service and would like to continue that as your state representative. There are so many issues that affect rural Pennsylvanians, particularly those in our district that I will fight to legislate. Fire and EMS coverage in our district is rapidly falling off. Services are dying and people aren’t doing these jobs anymore. As State Representative, I won’t need to take meetings and review more costly and pointless studies to this problem. I have the experience to bring this issue to the table. I will attack the issue of substandard reimbursement for EMS services so that these companies can pay their bills and pay professional wages to the EMTs and Paramedics in our area. I will legislate at every opportunity to reallocate tax money away from frivolous spending and direct it to rural volunteer fire departments. I will use the systems in place, like regional councils, to provide scholarship dollars and pathways to careers to bring more people into public safety. On a parallel track, I will work in the State House to require minimum safe staffing ratios for nurses in the hospital. Research has shown time and again that lower ratios result in fewer patient injuries and deaths, as well as more satisfying careers for nurses. These ratios are in everyone’s best interest.
As our district so badly needs, I will work tirelessly to support small businesses, small farmers, and those companies that utilize natural resources. Coal, natural gas, and oil services will have a friend with me. I will advocate for the environmentally responsible extraction of these resources. Pennsylvania is a state full of these resources and it’s time we take full advantage of them long term. This includes advocating for new and upgraded pipelines across the state to ensure the safe, reliable delivery of these resources. Small businesses and farms can trust me to deliver votes on legislation that supports them. My family has long been made up of farmers and entrepreneurs. I have seen and experienced firsthand what it takes to run a small business and I will always support those people that take on that challenge.
I am excited to begin this run because I am the 63rd district. I have been living here and learning my whole life how Harrisburg supports only the urban areas of our state, which needs to change. My heartfelt congratulations and thanks goes to outgoing Representative Donna Oberlander. I know that she stood up for our district and has the highest level of integrity amongst our politicians. Moving forward, a new vision with old values is needed to take us through the information age. I have achieved the Daisy Award for my compassion, and am always there to help a neighbor in need in their most dire days, and I am excited to take my knowledge and compassion to be the next Representative of the 63rd District of the Pennsylvania General Assembly.
